COVER ART

Cover art is the illustration or photograph on the outside of a published product such as a book, magazine, product package, video game, DVD, CD, videotape, audio album, manual or brochure.

One unique type of cover art is that of CDs or DVDs. Most notable of this category would be album art, referring specifically to artwork created for a music album. Among the most noted are those by Pink Floyd, especially The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here, and The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

However, lately the trend is to use digital photography merged with graphics, with both print and internet graphics matching. ex: the basic look of the website matches the look of the CD designs. Many record labels and independent artists opt to spend more of the budget more on website design on save money of the CD. Ultimately relying on the consumer to visit the website for any visual experience. Rather than spending thousands of dollars taking massive numbers of print media to the consumer, you instead drive the consumer to the website, where the design project is a single event, created once for all to enjoy.
